New Hampshire's Virtual Town Hall
Danielle Gauthier, the mother of a 12 year-old Manchester student, is suing her daughter's school after her daughter was beaten in the school cafeteria. Prior to the cafeteria assault Gauthier's daughter was punched on the school bus.
According to a WMUR report, "Danielle Gauthier claims that the Manchester School District was irresponsible when it didn't contact her after the first incident with her daughter, Morgan Graveline. The school district said at the time the incident was reported that it investigated and took action, but the superintendent didn't feel it rose to the level of bullying."
Gauthier's daughter also received threatening e-mails prior to the cafeteria assault. The lawsuit claims that the school Principal was aware of the e-mails.
If the court finds the threatening e-mails and/or school bus assault consistent with New Hampshire's legal definition of bullying, the school could be held liable for failing to notify the parents of a bullying incident within forty-eight hours.
