New Hampshire's Virtual Town Hall

The most recent effort to reform the state's shoreland protection act now rests in the state budget agreed to Thursday (June 16, 2011) by House and Senate budget conferees.

The original measure to reform existing shoreland protection laws was contained in SB 154. But repeal of the state's participation in the Regional Greenhouse Gas Initiative (RGGI) was added to the bill.

Gov. John Lynch is likely to veto the bill because of the RGGI inclusion and there don't appear to be enough votes in the Senate to override.

News emerged out of the House-Senate budget negotiations that efforts to save the shoreland protection reform were made part of the new biennial state budget.

The House and Senate are scheduled to act on the budget next week, at which point it will go to Lynch for his consideration.
