New Hampshire's Virtual Town Hall

At a press conference today, Gov. Lynch was joined by police chiefs, state police, and college officials urging the House to reject several bills that would loosen regulations on firearms in NH.

Republican House leaders are optimistic about the passage of the bills.

The point you make about law enforcement use of deadly force is particularly interesting in light of last year's murder statistics.  NH averages 18.1 murders a year; last year there were 23.  While there's always going to be fluctuations in those sorts of statistics, the use of deadly force was a large factor in last year's spike.  According to an article I read in the Jan. 2 Union Leader, each year there are typically one or two fatalities from law enforcement use of deadly force.  In 2011 there were five fatalities from the use of deadly force.

While all five instances were ruled justified, it still gives me pause.

when I see NH law enforcement wear a taser on thier favored side instead of a Loaded handgun Then they can speak out

this past year we had 3 incidents where NH Lawenforcement shot and killed citizens, 2 of these should not have been the 3rd

I forget what happened I do not think it was justified though. They need to stand down

A well regulated Militia, being necessary to the security of a free State, the right of the people to keep and bear Arms, SHALL NOT BE INFRINGED. December 15, 1791

I don't come down strongly on either side of the gun control issue.  However, I am definitely against HB 334, which would remove the ability of public universities to ban firearms from their campuses.  I'm a recent graduate of UNH, and the idea of letting handguns OR long guns into dorms and frat houses sounds like a recipe for accidental shootings.

I understand the argument that constitutional rights simply shouldn't be infringed on public property.  Then again, given how little funding the NH government gives to public universities, they are practically private institutions!
