Fairpoint

Is anyone really surprised that Fairpoint is declaring bankrupty? Would anyone be sad to see them leave the state? I had a terrible experience with them and they still owe me money!

Rep. Judith Day at it again- Why does she continue to attack motorcyclists?

Rep Judith Day and her husband Larry Miller, both North Hampton residents, continue to plague my small Seacoast community with laws infringing on the rights of motorcyclists. Part of the group that spearheaded the most recent attack against motorcyclists through the passage of a noise ordinance, these two have now contacted an attorney to prepare a brief that will be submitted to Rockingham County Superior Court. The brief will support enforcement of the noise ordinance and defend their case…See More

I can't believe there's this much controversy over a 24 minute change. I'd like to know what sleep experts think about that. If I get 4 hours or 9 hours, 24 extra minutes doesn't make a difference.

Electoral College

When all is said and done, it's the Electoral College vote -- not the popular vote -- that decides the presidency. Some states are considering legislation that essentially bypasses the Electoral College. Should New Hampshire join in?See More

I found this comment very profound; its from Shawn Watkins, July 28, 2010, on the LFDA Facebook page; "I agree that RSA-570 is poorly written and needs to be changed, however until then, the law is the law. The only way to change it is to do…

This hyperpartisanship by party leaders is exactly what I am talking about and find such a dis-service to the citizens - quoted from Kevin Landrigan's recap in the Keene Sentinel Source; "Something was in the air this week as 2010 primary…

Politico.com addresses hyperpartisanship in politics - Looks like it's here to stay for now

Politico.com recently ran an article which spoke about the presence of hyperpartisanship smothering American politics like the plague. Despite numerous Presidential pleas to meet in the middle, Politico.com says it's here to stay. "...there are two big incentives that drive behavior at the intersection where politics meets media. One is public attention. The other is money. Experience shows there’s lots more of both to be had by engaging in extreme partisan behavior."Politico goes on to say…See More

Business-related bills signed into law by Gov. Lynch

I thought members may be interested to know about the following business-related bills, signed into law by Governor Lynch last week. My source is the NH Business Review. Here are a few of the changes:• Under HB 598, auctioneers will be more tightly regulated, and the cost of a bond they must acquire has been raised from $10,000 to $25,000. The law goes into effect Jan 1, 2011.• Under…See More

Mike Branley replied to Jamila Lasante's discussion 'Seat belt law' in the group Seat Belts
Alex, those rankings are regarding the knowledge of drivers who took a written test, not how safe they drive. I am not sure that having a seatbelt law would make drivers in NH more knowledgable.

Alex, Of course a seatbelt law would not be the first act to limit independence in New Hampshire. However such a law would give police officers one more violation to look for to pull drivers over and hand out citations. I would not be adamently…

Editorial nails ridiculousness of NH Office of Travel & Tourism latest act

I found the following Editorial from Joseph W. McQuaid of the Union Leader; "Stop laughing, NH, you need a brand" right on target about the ridiculousness of NH hiring a FL firm to help determine its "brand" - which, by the way, will not be our Live Free or Die motto.Do you agree?"Last week, some not-too-bright marketing types at Chevrolet decided to ban the use of "Chevy" because, their memo said, they should get behind a single brand term, "like Coke." After the country stopped laughing and…See More

I agree that New Hampshire is founded on independent thinking and personal freedom. However, a seatbelt law would not be the first law implemented to force safety on New Hampshire's citizens. One could argue that the minimum drinking age is…

Stephen wants to run for Governor but doesn't work in this state?

NH has an undeniable need to attract and retain a sustainable workforce. The state doesn't want to see its citizens travel out of state in pursuit of more lucrative careers.

I recently read an announcement in the Concord Monitor that John Stephen kicked off his campaign for Republican candidate for Governor. According to the article, Stephen, a Manchester resident works for a Boston-based…
