New Hampshire's Virtual Town Hall

Decisions, decions, decisions!   They are the puzzle pieces that ultimately come together to ultimately form each of our lives. Some of them are easy, others carry the weight of an Elephant on steroids.  Decisions about life, love, and the persuit of happiness.  I have personally, as of late, been a terrible decision maker.  I was ashamed for a while, but after seeing most of the decions being made by the "tough decision" makers. . . well, let's just say it's always nice to see that you're not alone.

I often wonder what it must be like to carry the burden of making the "tough decisions." The kind of decisions that effect an entire company, community, or even sometimes the whole world.  To even think about that kind of pressure makes my skull crack. Thinking about this fact slapped me accross the face with some perspective.  For every poor choice, I believe there's a good one waiting to take its place. . . a concept lost, it seems, on some of the powers that be in Washington, in Concord, and even here on Junkins Ave.

I profess my love for this town, and this state a lot.  This is my home.  This is where I was born, grew up, and will probably be the place that I die.  It's funny how one's econimic affairs seem to mirror that of the society in which he lives.  I made piss-poor decions that dug a hole, and over the years so have our elected officials.  Not all of them have been so money/power hungry . . . the ones that get it just always seem to get out-voted.  I won't name names, the greedy ones know who they are; those who forgot who gave them the job in the first place.  Theysit up there with their sense of entitlement flaunting all the book-smarts they ever paid for, but not using any god-given common sense.

"Test scores are low, so let's start budget cutting with education, and fire the teachers."  "Good Idea!  Let's build a brand new Gym, even though there are seven in town."  "Brilliant!  You know that Child Advocacy center that helps thousands of abused children?  That's dumb, we should cut their funding, and use it to cover the ever-growing police force." . . . Ah, to be a fly on the wall at a closed door budget meeting.

I will never say I could do it better . . . I mean I don't have a degree, so I must be stupid.  I will say that YOU can start making better choices for us, and not the people here to "summer," and if you can't why do we pay you?  As sordid the history of America may be, one thing is true.  The people were meant to have the power over the government.  We shouldn't be afraid of you, you should be afraid of us. Come on fellow Portsmouthians, stand up!  I know, and respect so many of you.  I know you aren't happy with the direction we've been headed.  You need to realize that we the people, in order to form a more perfect union, have the power take the helm, and set a different course.  Look at yourself.   Somewhere along the line "The Man" took the the power from the people . . . or did they?  Life's all about choices, pal.  Why don't we all agree to start making better ones.
