New Hampshire's Virtual Town Hall

Hi everyone. I am a Republican candidate in the CD2 race for US Congress competing against Bass, Horn and Giuda. I am being excluded from the upcoming WMUR/Union Leader debate scheduled for September 8th because they are basing their invitations on how much money the candidates have raised.

I am very much an active candidate in this race having participated in numerous debates and forums around the state. My investment has been in pounding the pavement, walking the malls, stopping by every car at the drive-in, visiting people in their homes and plain old fashioned hard work. There is no reason for me to be excluded from this debate and I need help making a lot of noise about it.

Please write and call WMUR and the Union Leader and insist that we hear from ALL of the candidates. Our government is BROKEN and this is a perfect example of how the political machine is protecting itself from, "We the people." This is exactly why I am running. We have to stand up to this and fight our way back into government.

We must restore the channel of communication between the people and their representatives by electing ourselves! Please help me get into this debate in any way you can and spread the word that we are not going to go quietly into the night while they steal our government out from under us!

For WMUR and the Union Leader to disallow participation in a candidate debate based on how much campaign money has been raised by a particular candidate is reprehensible. As a citizen and registered undeclared voter in the state of New Hampshire, I investigate and analyze the data available on every candidate, regardless of party affiliation. All too often, there is insufficient information available to allow an informed decision. Seeing this type of negative voter support from two of the larger resident mass media outlets, explains why.

I must say that that seeing candidate Bass, Giuda, and Horn come to the defense of candidate Sonner makes me feel good to be a New Hampshire citizen. These gentlemen all exhibit the New Hampshire spirit as does candidate Sonner for highlighting their support of his desire to take part in the debate. “Well done candidates – one and all!”

All three of the other active candidates, Bass, Giuda and Horn have gone to bat for me and are pushing WMUR and the Union Leader to include me in this debate. I applaud them and regardless of your feelings about any of these candidates they are all three very interested in seeing me participate. I am overwhelmed by the response from the NHGOP, John Sununu and the other candidates in my race. And of course you all have been writing and calling too. I'm humbled and grateful, regardless of the outcome. Thank you!

WMUR and the Union Leader issued the following statement to the LFDA:

WMUR and the New Hampshire Union Leader invited the candidates to the Granite State Debates that we feel are the most newsworthy. A variety of objective factors were considered in making this decision (including, among other things, amount and nature of campaign activities, whether the campaign has a staff and volunteers, level of financial support from the community, public opinion polls etc.). Our news departments make these news judgments to assure the most newsworthy candidates are given enough time in the debate to explain their positions adequately. When there are not the same time constraints WMUR has provided coverage of and about most candidates, including Wes Sonner, on our newscasts and our website (including "10 Questions," "Meet the Candidate," "Ad Watch" and coverage of other debates and events). WMUR has also interviewed most of the candidates, including Wes Sonner, on our political talk show "Close-Up."
