New Hampshire's Virtual Town Hall

Should New Hampshire allow medical marijuana?

During this year's legislative session, the General Court passed a law that would have allowed patients to use marijuana to ease their pain. However, the bill was vetoed by Gov. John Lynch and the Legislature failed to override the governor's veto.

Do you think New Hampshire should become the 14th state to legalize medical marijuana? Should the state punish patients who use marijuana?

Let us know what you think and leave a comment.

First the answer's to your questions above. Yes it should be the 14th State to legalize Marijuana and NO, you should NOT PUNISH PATIENTS who use it to help them. I have been disabled with a back injury since 1991, was injured in 1989 but took me a while to get certified disabled. (I had to fight.) I now use morphine in two different types as well as a relaxant for my muscles. I know marijuana would help with a lot of thing related to my illness I just don't want to end up in jail.
I'd wonder how many of our Representatives and Senators and Gov have a couple of drinks of alcohol after work, or a cigarette break at work, or maybe even how about their morning "coffee" that they wouldn't be able to do without I'm sure if it were taken away from them and made illegal to drink. I wonder how they would feel if those things were illegal?!?
What I don't understand is I thought that "we the people of the State" elect people to represent us in making these decisions, we all know that the majority of the State believe in Medical Marijuana and I'd venture to guess they would even agree with legalizing and taxing it for recreational use, me I'd be happy with a medical program but to make it so you could only use it at a Hospital is crazy!!! I really don't understand the Governor's thinking. Does he realize that marijuana is already being sold in NH and to kids??? Now I'm just a normal person with a High School education but I would think it would be easier to regulate and control as far as our kids getting it than leaving it in the hands of the underground as it is now. I'm sure that almost any High School kid could get a bag of weed if they wanted to but if we took it out of the hands of the underground and made it legal we would be able to regulate it better and do a better job at keeping it out of our kids hands. But if we lie to them and they're not stupid (I have 3 daughter 28,30 & 32) and I was also a kid once and remember the big hype about smoking marijuana but when it actually came down to trying it years ago when I was young it was nothing like the adults or lawmakers said it was like so they lied, now what else did they lie about I wondered. I think the truth is the best way to go no matter what it's about.
Also if you want to say it's "the gateway drug" I beg to differ, It think for a kid candy is their first gateway drug, then cigarette's, then along with cigarettes coffee is tried and then booze, then I think if they're not already an alcoholic by then they might go to marijuana but some stay on booze and let it eat at their liver and die a young age. For me booze was my favorite drug, in a way I'm glad I hurt my back when I did and got off of the booze because it was worth it to take my pain meds than drink and so I stopped drinking but if I had not I'm sure I would not be writing this post. Don't think I can say that about the recreational marijuana smoker though?!? I personally think it should be legalized and if not for the whole at least for medicinal use, not sure about having to actually do to the Hospital to use or smoke it but I guess he (the Gov) has his idea's even if they are a little out of whack. If he doesn't change or start doing some reading on the subject I'm ready to vote another Governor into Office and as far as I"m concerned I want a Governor that listens to his Consituants and not "his own thinking". He is suppose to represent us the people, not only "his personal" views. Just my opinion.

If Gov. John Lynch doesn't want to change the Marijuana laws and continues to ignore what the people need and want, and the polls are showing that people do want Medical Marijuana in NH, then it is time for a new Govenor. The law says that we can vote him out. Also the Medical community is recommending the use of Medical Marijuana to 13 other states. We missed by 2 votes and the Govenors Veto. People just may start to leave everything they have in NH and go to a state that has MM legalized so that they and there families do not end up in prison. Also it is about the harsh laws period, just think about if you're teenager ends up in jail over a joint and there record is blemished for the rest of there lives. We have the harshest laws in this country. I ask Why?? I mean I am not saying that you're teenager should be doing this or is, I am saying the law is to hard.

Here is what I'd ask: If the legislature passed a medical marijuana bill that addressed the specific concerns cited in his veto message, would he sign it?
