My very first election was in 2004. Walking into the PHS Gym my head was held high, my pen grasped tightly in my sweaty palm. Filling out the registration form, I almosed tore a hole in the paper while writing "Democrat," in the Party Afilliation box. (Now I'm and Independent, but cut me some slack I was young and naive). For me, it wasn't about the presidential election . . . I already knew who was going to take it, even if I didn't vote for him. The box I was most excited to Check was "John Lynch."
That year the Gubernatorial Election was so much more important to all of us, becaseu it was the tightest race we'd seen in decades. Craig Benson . . . what a tool. He had to go. Yet another story of an over-zealous Conservative Republican working to "save American Values." Remember his promise? To take Government out of our every day lives, becasause too much Geovernemnt in the private sector just was not right. What he really wanted to do was keep Uncle Sam away from Wall St. because his hands were so dirty. He started to run New Hampshire like he did Cabletron . . . right into the Ground. Enter John Lynch; the Granite State's Knight in shining armor.
In three terms he trully has brought NH back from our 2 year stint with tyrany. He's perservered through all of his critics, through three elections, and six natural disasters. Our education system has improved . . . not the best . . . but it's improved. We still don't pay a sales or State Income tax. We live more comfortably than almost any other state. And let's not forget, Governor Lynch has made this state a lot of money. . . but at what Cost? It has recently occured to be, that while we were all re-bulding our over-flooded, charred, iced over, roofless homes, our Governor was busy selling us out.
In these six years the number of Massachusettes developers coming to our state has Skyrocketed. Our population has increased dramatically, because we are after all, better. But look at us now. We're turning into the metro-sexual of the United States. Boston Life is slowly taking over. Oh, wait! Where's Lynch From again? Waltham Mass?? I mean, I don't know when exactly the take-over started . . . but I look at every "coincidence." How is the New Hampshire way of life supposed to survive, when we the Leaders we choose to elect aren't even from here? It just doesn't make sense. New Hampshire hasn't seen a native son or daughter as Governor since Steve Merrill in 1993.
This november, I will not be marking John Lynch on my Ticket. I'll see what Stephen has to say, but I may not even vote in this years state election. I will vote for the next New Hampshire native who show's that they have the cajones to stand up to the norm, and profess L.F.O.D. from the top of Mount Washington. When our state and it's Mantre actually mean something to the man or woman running it.
When My school gets cut $4million, when 750 of NH workers are in fear of losing their jobs, when you needlessly veto bill after bull, before reviewing its bennefits, just because it goes againts your personal moral standard . . . I say to you, it's time to go. Because you have made it evident to all of us sir, that New Hampshire, and its Live Free or Die policy means nothing to you.
